Once your study has been completed, ensure arc flash stickers have been placed on all electrical panels and equipment.
NFPA 70E states:
“Electrical panels and equipment that are likely to require examination, adjustment, servicing, or maintenance while energized shall be field marked with a label.”
It is important to set up a meeting following your study to go over your arc flash study report.
At the very least, make sure the engineer is going over what the report covers, if anything failed, and if any equipment needs to be mitigated. Not every detail needs to be addressed, but you should be familiar enough with the study to know how it affects your property.
Train your staff to work safely in an arc flash environment.
The arc flash study will impact how your staff completes many of their daily duties. Ensure your staff is equipped with the proper PPE and training so that they may safely and confidently perform their tasks while in an arc flash environment.
Do not let yourself or your property get short changed in the arc flash study process. It is part of your responsibility to follow through and complete the study by ensuring the stickers are correct and in place.
Additionally, make sure the report is explained to you, and that your staff is properly trained before they begin work in the arc flash environment. Remember, the arc flash study is not just a project waiting for completion, but a daily practice to be followed by all.
